PROFILE

An Osaka-based theater group founded in Osaka by a playwright and director Takuya Yokoyama. Their straight plays feature dialogues in Kansai dialect, aiming for the audience to experience as if they are witnessing arguments, disputes, or fights between other people.

Their intention is to produce plays that will be asked for repeat performances while entertaining and satisfying mature audience. Yokoyama has received many awards including the 15th Japan Playwrights Association Award for the Best New Play for "Edaniku," the 1st Sendai Short Play Award for "Tu ne sais pas aimer," the 72nd Agency for Cultural Affairs National Arts Festival New Artist Award (for Kansai district) for "When Haitsuburis fly."

The group name "iaku" is the romanization of a Japanese term "帷幄(e-ah-ku)." "帷幄" literally indicates a drop curtain used as a temporary wall of armed camp at the time of field battles. It further indicates "the place for planning military campaigns."
