A cardboard castle keep will appear in Sumpu Castle Park!

Olivier Grossetête is a French artist who creates architecture around the world using cardboard. On his first visit to Japan, he will come to Sumpu Castle Park, a historic site associated with Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, and create a castle keep with visitors to the festival. The artist and participants will use only cardboard boxes and tapes to create a castle keep. From the “construction” on the first day to the “destruction” on the final day, this participatory installation work invites everyone, including children and adults, to take part. Let’s build an enormous piece of architecture with Olivier and have a joyous time together!

Make a mask out of cardboard with a photographer, and say cheese!

You can create unique full-face masks using cardboard. When you finish making the mask, get into character and take a picture of yourself with the mask on. Enjoy Strange Seed Shizuoka with your own handmade mask!

Come up with your own Otane-chan!!

Otane-chan is the mascot of Strange Seed Shizuoka designed by SHIRIAGARI Kotobuki, a manga artist born in Shizuoka City. This is a workshop where you can draw your original Otanechan together with the artist. A hundred people will come up with a hundred Otane-chans. How will yours come into bud?

Let’s move our body and mind to a piece of music, together with an incidental music composer!

This is a workshop where you can move your body and mind as you play with sounds. The program is designed to gradually connect the people sharing the event at the same place and time, as they have fun with the rhythms. Enjoy your rhythmic picnic on the lawn!

Let’s design a unique hat with a costume designer!

Kanmuri (or Kōburi) is a Japanese headwear with a unique shape, often seen in historical dramas. In this workshop, you can freely design headwear based on the shape of Kanmuri, deciding on the colors and decorations. Paint it and decorate it with pieces of cloth, yarn, and beads —and when you’re done, try it on!

Let’s make mysterious glasses with a scenographist!

If there’s a pair of glasses that you can see ○○... What does it look like? What color is it? How do you wear it? In this craft art workshop, you can expand your imagination to make a pair of glasses that lets you look at things you cannot usually see.

A play without a storyline!?
A workshop making a play out of what you have!

In this workshop, you can create a play without a story using Arumon (meaning “things you have” in Shizuoka dialect), and everyone in the play will be the main character. Setting “What are the things you like?” as a key phrase, let’s create a mini-performance on the lawn of Sumpu Castle Park, together with children from the alternative school Shizuoka New School!

What will you be doing in 10 years? In this project, A Short Message to Your Future Self in 10 Years!, we will collect messages from festival visitors addressed to someone in 10 years to create an installation. We will also host a Soragoto Workshop Performance where we use the collected messages to create and perform a mini play.

Originating in Italy, Dance Well is a dance program that invites anyone to participate regardless of illness, age, or experience in dancing. On the lawn of Sumpu Castle Park, we can relax and move our bodies with inspiration from the environment and people around us to enjoy exploring various physical expressions.

Let’s fill up the city with bizarreness!

Taking a selfie without a camera, cycling without a bicycle, jumping without a jump rope… Let’s make the city feel wrong, either a little or a lot, with a strange group performance! In the “Tryout Session,” you can experience such performance, and you may quit whenever you feel too embarrassed! In the “Creation Session,” you will create your original work and show it to others. Try out performing outdoors with us!

A pillow fight-dance!?
A workshop to release your mind and body.

A dance workshop inspired by the pillow fight, designed for you to relax and have fun on the lawn of Sumpu Castle Park. Write down your dream or wish on a pillow and throw it, dance with it, or lie down with it, while listening to live music. Your finished work will be displayed, and you can take the pillow cover home if you wish. Let’s enjoy a moment to think about your dream and pass it on to others, regardless of age and experience in dancing.

Roll around like a panda, or walk and crawl quietly on all fours like a cat! Let’s experience the world of animals with NOBANASHI Con, a dancer and the supervisor of Dōbutsu Taisō (Animal Gymnastics ), a performance based on the movements of animals!
