“Bird Ceremony”

“ONTAI performance” is a unique combination of music and dance created simultaneously through sessions.
The theme of this show is a ritual for worshipping a holy bird that is said to have brought a tea tree seed to Shizuoka. (Well, this is only our imagination.) You might think the performance would be quiet and solemn, but no! It’s got drumbeats. Even when taking an avant-garde approach, Yoko Honaga production stays pop!
This time the company has three performers: Sachio Takayama as a drummer, So Ueda and Yoko Honaga as dancers. They will perform in a “Sports Band” style where the performers move around in live music. Don’t miss it!

honagayoko project

Yoko Honaga production is an “ONTAI performance” company led by a performing artist/choreographer Yoko Honaga, founded in 2009. Aiming at visualization of music through physical expressions, the company combines music and dance created simultaneously. For each work different musicians are invited, or Honaga herself composes and plays music. The musical collaborators include NISENNENMONDAI, Sangatsu, d.v.d, Tenniscoats, Misato Kinoshita, Tamaki Roy, Sayonara Ponytail, and many others. Being avant-garde yet their style remaining pop and catchy, the company continues to perform at theaters, music festivals and art events with unique dancers. “Real Electric Shock!!,” “Please Don’t Love Me,” “Kimi no Shiranai Korobikata,” “Naname Line Express” are some of their major works.
