Umebou is a dance company who presents “theatrical dance entertainment,” a dramatic world composed of Jazz dance and J-POP music with a storyline. What underlies is their motto to provide “performances that many audience can identify with, feel empathy, and be moved.”
In 2009, they won the special prize at the largest domestic competition of street dance called “JAPAN DANCE DELIGHT vol.16.” It was an unprecedented accomplishment for a jazz dance team.
In 2012, they won the first prize at the largest domestic choreography competition, “Legend Tokyo chapter.2,” and became the best in Japan.
In the same year they moved their stage to theater. Well-received by the fans of various fields including play, dance and music, they set an attendance record of more than 20,000 audiences in 2018. They have become a hot topic in many quarters of the industry such as popular TV shows, musicals and music LIVEs for their choreographic works.
